COLD IS GOLD × ABMIUM
OPERATIONAL BRIEF · AUGUST 2026

A predictable flow
of new lab and biotech customers.

This document lays out an operational plan to put ABMIUM’s verified reagents in front of research labs and biotechs across the UK and Europe through cold email outreach — reading time ~ 6 minutes.

Read first

What you are about to read is a first take, drafted ahead of our conversation to give you a concrete preview of how we work.

The prospects, signals and projections presented here are working hypotheses — we will refine them together during the engagement.

The aim of this document is to let you picture concretely what a campaign could produce.

01 / YOUR BUSINESS

We understand your DNA.

ABMIUM is a UK-registered life-sciences platform, not a traditional reseller, that sources research-use-only reagents — antibodies, ELISA kits and recombinant proteins — and layers independent evidence and manufacturer traceability on top of every one. Its promise is simple: reagents you can trace, evidence you can trust. Where most labs still gamble grant money on a datasheet claim, ABMIUM screens provenance and binding evidence first through its ABMIUM Verified and ABMIUM Validated programmes, backed by native mass spectrometry (IonSight) and spatial validation (Viroscope). The mission the whole platform is built around: to make life science research more reproducible, affordable and sustainable.

What sets you apart

ABMIUM is not a catalogue reseller. Every product passes a structured evidence review — datasheet checks, application-claim validation, manufacturer-credibility assessment — before it earns the ABMIUM Verified mark, and selected products go further through in-house or partner experimental validation (ABMIUM Validated), including native mass spectrometry via IonSight and spatial validation via Viroscope. On top of the evidence sits institutional pricing of up to 60% off. The result replaces the guesswork in reagent selection with provenance a reviewer, a supervisor and a grant auditor can all follow.

What we will push on your behalf

ABMIUM as the way to stop gambling grant money on reagents that may not work. The pitch lands on a pain every wet lab shares: an antibody that does not bind what its datasheet claims can burn months of a PhD and a chunk of a grant. The sharpest version is reagent-specific — when a lab has published using a named clone or target, we open with that exact fact and offer a verified, traceable, often cheaper equivalent to benchmark against. We do not replace your team or pretend to know the science better than they do; we automate the heavy lifting so your scientists spend their time on the conversation, not the research.

02 / YOUR MARKET

A market identified and qualified.

We start from the biomedicine research universe — university research groups and pre-clinical biotech companies that buy antibodies, recombinant proteins and ELISA kits — and keep only the countries where we can lawfully reach out. The buyer is sized as the unit that controls its own reagent spend: a university research group (its Principal Investigator) or a small-to-mid biotech company. Consent-only markets where B2B cold email is not permitted — Germany, Belgium, Austria, Spain, Italy and others — were screened out, and France is held for a separate French-language campaign. That leaves the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Portugal and Switzerland. The combined working universe is around 19,000 reagent buyers across pre-clinical biomedicine.

~19,000
reagent buyers identified
UK & Ireland ~11,000, Netherlands / Sweden / Denmark / Finland / Norway / Portugal ~6,000, Switzerland ~2,000 — university research groups and pre-clinical biotechs buying antibodies, proteins and ELISA kits
~9,500
contactable prospects
after applying the 50% ratio (named researcher + business email findable and verified)
~157
commercial opportunities
over 12 months (weighted mean of the 4 scenarios, 4 emails per prospect)
~31
potential new customers
over 12 months (B2B average closing rate: 20%)

How we build this database

We cross-reference public research and funder registries (ERC, UKRI Gateway, national Research Council grant databases), PubMed and bioRxiv author affiliations, biotech company registries and Crunchbase, LinkedIn, conference speaker and delegate lists, and the institutional press to identify PIs and biotech decision-makers that match your criteria. Every contact is then verified and enriched by AI: role check, business-email validation, last-12-month signal scrape per lab or company. Impossible to do by hand across tens of thousands of research groups — this is what makes qualification possible at scale.

Why 50% are contactable

Principal Investigators usually publish an institutional email, but biotech founders, CSOs and heads of R&D are rarely listed in public databases with a verified direct address. This 50% ratio is deliberately conservative — academic and biotech seniority typically yields 40% to 60% verified emails through Sales Navigator, Apollo, Hunter and our enrichment stack — to give you realistic projections rather than optimistic ones.

Every prospect in this funnel sits in a country where B2B cold email is lawful under legitimate interest with an opt-out, and each campaign carries a documented Legitimate Interest Assessment. The ~31 new customers is market headroom, not a delivery promise: ABMIUM is early-stage and founder-led, and the point of the funnel is to show the shape of the opportunity. We can tighten it (UK only, biotechs only) or widen it again once France runs as a separate French-language campaign.
03 / PROSPECT SAMPLE

10 labs and biotechs identified by our AI.

Before launching at full scale, we always start with a sample of 10 real prospects, picked across both halves of the ICP (university research groups and biotech companies) and across the countries we can lawfully email, to show the approach works everywhere. For each one we identify a named decision-maker, surface a recent verifiable signal, and explain why the prospect fits ABMIUM’s verified-reagent offer. The same method is then applied to your full base of ~9,500 contactable buyers.

For each prospect, our AI identifies a concrete signal: a recent paper naming a reagent or target, a funding round or grant, a new programme, a conference. That signal justifies why to reach out now and provides the foundation for personalising the email.

This sample spans five biotechs (Maxion, Aerska, Avidicure, Aventera, ALP Bio) and five university and institute labs (CRUK Manchester, DTU, Oslo University Hospital, Turku, i3S Porto) across nine countries — a preview of what your full base will look like. You will have the opportunity to validate it and steer us before the campaign goes live.

01

Maxion Therapeutics

Aneesh Karatt-Vellatt · Co-founder & CSO
Cambridge antibody-engineering biotech. Its KnotBody platform fuses antibodies to cystine-knot mini-proteins to drug ion channels and GPCRs.
SIGNAL DETECTED

March 2025: closed a $72M (£58M) oversubscribed Series A (General Catalyst, with Eli Lilly and British Patient Capital) to advance lead KnotBody MAX001 through pre-clinical development, then doubled its R&D lab space at Unity Campus later in 2025.

WHY THIS PROSPECT FOR ABMIUM

A cash-rich, fast-expanding discovery shop screening antibodies against recombinant ion-channel, GPCR and cytokine targets is a high-volume reagent buyer. Independent binding and provenance data on every clone and antigen is exactly what de-risks a KnotBody screen, and a doubled lab means procurement is ramping now.

02

CRUK Manchester Institute

Dr. Evangelos Giampazolias · Group Leader, Cancer Immunosurveillance
Early-independent PI (ERC Starting Grant) at the CRUK Manchester Institute, studying how dendritic cells detect dying cancer cells.
SIGNAL DETECTED

May 2025: his group’s paper in the Journal of Experimental Medicine characterised the DNGR-1 (CLEC9A) receptor on bone-marrow dendritic-cell progenitors, followed by a Nature Immunology cross-presentation paper in January 2026.

WHY THIS PROSPECT FOR ABMIUM

cDC1 identification and DNGR-1/CLEC9A signalling run on validated antibodies (flow, WB, IHC) and recombinant proteins, and anti-CLEC9A clones are notoriously variable batch to batch. ABMIUM can offer verified, traceable clones with independent binding data for the group’s next order.

03

Aerska

Jack O’Meara · Co-founder & CEO
Dublin CNS biotech building antibody-oligonucleotide conjugate “brain-shuttle” platforms to carry RNAi across the blood-brain barrier.
SIGNAL DETECTED

February 2026: raised a €32M ($39M) Series A, after a $21M seed in October 2025, to advance its AOC brain-shuttle platform for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

WHY THIS PROSPECT FOR ABMIUM

AOC brain-shuttles depend on targeting antibodies (for example anti-transferrin-receptor) plus recombinant target proteins and binding immunoassays. A freshly funded, fast-building platform buying its first large reagent batches is precisely where verified, traceable reagents remove early reproducibility risk.

04

Avidicure

Robert Friesen · Co-founder & CSO
Amsterdam antibody-engineering biotech building avidity-engineered multifunctional antibodies (AVC-Booster) for oncology.
SIGNAL DETECTED

April 2025: launched out of stealth with a $50M seed round led by EQT Life Sciences to take its multifunctional antibody modality into pre-clinical candidates.

WHY THIS PROSPECT FOR ABMIUM

A newly capitalised team building novel Fc and avidity constructs is a heavy buyer of anti-Fc and anti-target antibodies, recombinant Fc receptors and target proteins, and binding and ELISA kits. New capital plus new labs means active procurement, and verified reagents map straight onto their reproducibility need.

05

Aventera Antibodies

Arman Izadi · Co-founder & CEO
Lund University spin-out (founded 2025) discovering antibodies against life-threatening bacterial infection.
SIGNAL DETECTED

April 2026: secured a SEK 14.5M seed round to advance its lead pre-clinical antibody programme against invasive Group A streptococcus (iGAS), with animal-model proof of concept already done.

WHY THIS PROSPECT FOR ABMIUM

A newly funded antibody-discovery shop ramping wet-lab operations needs verified antibodies, recombinant bacterial and Fc antigens, and immunoassays. The small team means the CEO is directly reachable and is the buyer.

06

DTU — Center for Antibody Technologies

Prof. Andreas Hougaard Laustsen-Kiel · Center Director & Group Leader
Directs the Center for Antibody Technologies at the Technical University of Denmark, developing recombinant human antibodies against biological toxins.
SIGNAL DETECTED

February 2025: received the Danish EliteForsk (Elite Research) Award, DKK 1.2M, for developing recombinant human antibodies that neutralise snake-venom toxins.

WHY THIS PROSPECT FOR ABMIUM

A lab that discovers, expresses and screens recombinant antibodies and toxin and target proteins and runs neutralisation immunoassays is a textbook reagent consumer, and an evidence-driven academic group is the natural audience for independently verified, traceable reagents.

07

Oslo University Hospital — Protein Array Group

Dr. Fridtjof Lund-Johansen · Group Leader
Leads the Protein Array Group and FACS core facility at Oslo University Hospital (Rikshospitalet), running bead-based proteomics and antibody validation.
SIGNAL DETECTED

March 2026: co-authored a Blood paper on TCR-T cells targeting IgA- and IgG-expressing multiple myeloma, naming IgA and IgG surface targets.

WHY THIS PROSPECT FOR ABMIUM

The whole lab is built on antibody specificity and bead-based protein-array proteomics, a continuous consumer of antibodies and recombinant proteins, and precisely the audience that treats “independently verified, evidence-traceable” as a purchasing criterion.

08

Turku Bioscience — Mattila Lab

Dr. Pieta Mattila · Group Leader
InFLAMES group leader at Turku Bioscience / University of Turku, studying B-lymphocyte activation and the immune synapse.
SIGNAL DETECTED

June 2025: awarded a €600,000 Research Council of Finland grant for “Intracellular vesicles in B cell activation and immunity”, with a supporting Journal of Cell Biology paper naming ATAT1 in August 2025.

WHY THIS PROSPECT FOR ABMIUM

B-cell and antibody-response immunology using BCR probes, proximity-biotinylation and immune-synapse imaging runs on antibodies, recombinant proteins and immunoassays. A fresh €600k grant means new reagent spend starting now.

09

ALP Bio AG

Dr. Christian Vahlensieck · Co-founder & CEO
Zurich-area techbio (founded 2025) combining human immune-organoids with AI to predict anti-drug-antibody (immunogenicity) risk in biologics.
SIGNAL DETECTED

April 2026: closed a CHF 1.75M (€1.9M) pre-seed round, led by 42CAP with Venture Kick, to advance its immune-organoid and AI platform.

WHY THIS PROSPECT FOR ABMIUM

Immune-organoid readouts run on cytokine ELISAs, detection antibodies and recombinant immune proteins daily. A freshly funded 2025 startup on a tight budget is exactly who benefits from verified, provenance-traceable and often cheaper reagents.

10

i3S Porto — Pinho Lab

Prof. Salomé S. Pinho · Group Leader
Leads the Immunology, Cancer & GlycoMedicine group at i3S, University of Porto, working on glyco-immunology and immune checkpoints.
SIGNAL DETECTED

October 2025: senior-authored a Cancer Immunology Research paper on reprogramming CD8+ T-cell branched N-glycosylation to limit exhaustion, and is named on an ERC Synergy Grant (GlycanSwitch).

WHY THIS PROSPECT FOR ABMIUM

Glyco-immunology depends on antibodies, glycan-specific reagents and recombinant immune-checkpoint proteins. A well-funded but reagent-intensive lab publishing on reproducible immune phenotyping is a natural fit for validated, traceable reagents.

04 / AI PERSONALISATION

Emails that look written by hand.

The difference between an email that gets ignored and an email that gets a reply is rarely the offer itself, it is the first sentence. When a Principal Investigator, CSO or founder opens an email and reads a sentence that names the exact antibody they cited in a paper, the grant they just won, or the target their platform is built on, the email earns the right to keep going. Cold is Gold’s AI workflow extracts those facts at scale across thousands of labs and biotechs, then weaves them into the opening line of each email so every message reads as if a scientist spent two minutes on the recipient. No flattery, no horoscope copy, no “I came across your website” openings, just a precise, verifiable fact in the researcher’s own vocabulary, tied directly to the ABMIUM pitch.

The principle: when a PI or CSO reads the email, they should think “this person read my work”, not “this is a bot”. Every opening sentence cites a precise, verifiable fact in research vocabulary — clone, epitope, recombinant antigen, assay, Western blot, flow, provenance, validation.

Here are the 3 types of signals we would use to personalise every email sent on your behalf, stacked from most-findable to most-personal so the AI pipeline always has a clean fallback.

01

Research focus and reagent footprint

What we look for The disease area, platform and assays a lab or biotech works in (immunology, oncology, neuroscience, antibody engineering; flow, Western blot, IHC, ELISA) and therefore which reagent segment they buy.
Where we find it Lab and company websites · pipeline pages · PubMed and bioRxiv · conference programmes (AACR, EMBO, keynote symposia) · LinkedIn
Findable on 95% of prospects
Raw data

ALP Bio’s tonsil-organoid platform reads out immunogenicity using cytokine ELISAs and detection antibodies.

AI personalisation →

“Your immune-organoid readouts rest on cytokine ELISAs and detection antibodies, so a shift in reagent provenance can move an entire immunogenicity result.”

02

Fresh funding, grant or award

What we look for A raise, grant or research award in the last 12 months, the clearest sign a lab or biotech is about to buy reagents: a seed or Series A, an ERC or Research Council grant, a UKRI award, a named research prize.
Where we find it Biotech press and GlobeNewswire · EU-Startups · ERC and Research Council registers · UKRI Gateway · university news pages · Crunchbase
Findable on 80% of prospects
Raw data

Aventera closed a SEK 14.5M seed round in April 2026 to take its anti-Group-A-strep antibody through pre-clinical proof of concept.

AI personalisation →

“With the April seed round funding your iGAS antibody to pre-clinical proof of concept, you are about to be buying a lot of recombinant strep antigens and reference antibodies.”

03

A named reagent or target in a recent paper

What we look for The exact antibody clone, recombinant protein or molecular target a group cites in a recent publication, so we can offer a verified, traceable equivalent to benchmark against what they already use.
Where we find it PubMed · bioRxiv · journal methods sections and reagent tables · lab publication pages · the Antibody Registry (RRIDs)
Findable on 80% of prospects
Raw data

The CRUK Manchester group’s May 2025 Journal of Experimental Medicine paper pins its cDC1-progenitor work on anti-CLEC9A (DNGR-1) staining.

AI personalisation →

“Your JEM paper leaned on anti-CLEC9A staining for the cDC1 progenitors, and we hold independent binding data on a couple of clones if you want to benchmark them against the one your group cites.”

05 / CAMPAIGN EXAMPLES

Real campaigns we have run.

These 13 examples are intentionally varied — both in sector (construction, hospitality, luxury, SaaS, influencer marketing, editorial, EMS, factoring…) and in outcomes. You will find campaigns matching each of our 4 projection scenarios — from the minimum guarantee to exceptional cases. The goal is not to show a curated best-of, but the genuine diversity of what we produce. The campaign cards below are kept in their original French to remain faithful to the real artefacts we delivered. The AI-personalised sentences are highlighted in terracotta.

Good to know: phases 2, 3 and 4 run in parallel with the technical setup (phase 1). Concretely, during the 1-month technical warm-up we build your database and write your sequence — so the first emails go out from week 5.

Phase 1 — Technical setup

Creation of dedicated sending domains, SPF/DKIM/DMARC configuration, opening and setting up the email addresses, launch of the warm-up (1 month). No action required on your side.

Phase 2 — Workshop (1h)

A structured working session to define together the structure of the database, the tone of voice for the emails, and to gather your case studies and key differentiators. This phase runs in parallel with phase 1 (Technical setup).

Phase 3 — Sequence copywriting

First draft, feedback rounds and optimisations with you, then layering in the AI personalisation (the signals shown above). We validate the overall email content with you before moving on to the database.

Phase 4 — Database build

We assemble a sample of prospects (like the 10 above) for you to validate. Once approved, we build the full database with quality control: field verification, contact qualification.

Phase 5 — Campaign launch

Sending starts as soon as the warm-up is complete. First results within the first week. Real-time tracking: open rate, reply rate, opportunities generated.

Phase 6 — Reporting & optimisation

Real-time reporting through our platform. Continuous adjustments and A/B testing on subject lines, opening sentences and sequences. Regular monthly or quarterly check-ins depending on results.

Our commitment
No contractual commitment on the number of opportunities.

How the guarantee works in 3 clauses.

D0 · Launch
CLAUSE.01
Our commitment

We commit to generating at least opportunities per month, i.e. opportunities over months. This target matches the low scenario of our projections (10% of our clients' campaigns).

M+1 · Check
CLAUSE.02
If we fall short of the target

As soon as a month closes below opportunities, your billing is immediately frozen. Concretely: you stop paying from that month onwards, until we have fully caught up the cumulative shortfall. You never pay for a month where we don't deliver on our commitment.

M+3 · Limit
CLAUSE.03
If the shortfall persists over 3 consecutive months

Termination is possible at no cost. We keep working at our own expense during those 3 months of shortfall; beyond that, we acknowledge the failure and you are no longer billable for what follows.

Dynamic values

The figures shown in these clauses are not fixed: they are recalculated automatically based on the parameters set in your simulation above. The final contractual commitment will depend on the parameters validated together at the start of the engagement.

Contractual definition of an opportunity: a prospect responding positively to one of our prospecting emails — either an information request or a meeting request.

In addition to fees, 3 technical costs to plan for.

The first is a one-off investment that you own for life — your prospects remain yours, even if you stop working with us. The other two are monthly technical subscriptions, essential for any cold email campaign.

A FINAL WORD

This document is not a sales pitch. It is a projection built on the real numbers from our campaigns — the scenarios presented are not promises, they are averages observed across our clients.

Our method has been operational for several years. It works as soon as the fundamentals are in place: a clearly identified market, a differentiating positioning, a measured closing rate. ABMIUM has all three.

Our conviction is that we can install for you a steady stream of qualified research-lab and biotech customers across the UK and Europe over the next 12 months — with indicators we steer together, month after month.

Whenever you want to talk about it concretely, we are here.
